As a refugee-led charity, our impact grows from trusted relationships with the communities we support.
By listening to people’s experiences and learning from our frontline work, we seek not only to respond to immediate needs but also to understand recurring barriers, challenge discrimination and exclusion, strengthen our programmes and work with others towards fairer services and longer-term change.
Inspired works alongside refugees, asylum seekers and migrant communities to create meaningful change in people’s everyday lives — reducing isolation, strengthening wellbeing, building confidence, and connections, improving access to support and helping people understand and exercise their rights.
Reducing Isolation
Building Relationships
Isolation can be a significant challenge for people rebuilding their lives in a new country, particularly where language, mobility, financial pressures or limited social networks create additional barriers.
Through community gatherings, cultural activities, practical support and trusted relationships, Inspired creates opportunities for people to meet, build friendships, participate in community life and develop a greater sense of connection and belonging.
For older people, this can also include individual practical support from volunteers, helping people remain connected and participate when language, mobility or other barriers might otherwise leave them isolated.
Sham-e Jamei
Connection Through Community
Supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, Sham-e Jamei brings refugees, asylum seekers and migrant communities together through inclusive social gatherings, cultural activities and community participation.
The programme creates opportunities for people who may otherwise experience isolation to build friendships, share experiences and traditions, strengthen their wellbeing and become more connected to their communities.
Community members and volunteers contribute to the activities, helping create an environment built around participation, shared experience and belonging.
We Wear Heritage
Culture, Identity and Understanding
We Wear Heritage celebrates the cultural heritage of refugee, asylum seeker and migrant communities through traditional clothing, storytelling and shared experiences.
The project has created opportunities for people to reconnect with cultural identity and memories, share heritage across generations and introduce others to the traditions and experiences that form part of their lives.
By bringing different people together through culture, We Wear Heritage supports belonging, mutual understanding and appreciation of the diverse communities that make up our society.
Through advice, advocacy, information and signposting, Inspired helps people understand their rights and options, navigate services and connect with appropriate organisations when specialist support is needed.
Where people experience discrimination, exclusion or other barriers, we help them understand their options and advocate for appropriate support where we can.
Our frontline work also helps us recognise when similar barriers are affecting different people, allowing those experiences to inform our learning and future work.
Advice, Advocacy, & Rights
For refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, understanding how services work and knowing where to turn for help can make an important difference when rebuilding life in the UK.
Supporting Different
Generations and Needs
Inspired responds through support and programmes for women, young adults, older people, individuals, and families, while working to make community activities inclusive for people with disabilities.
People experience displacement, migration, and rebuilding their lives in different ways. Age, gender, disability, language, isolation, and other circumstances can create different or overlapping barriers.
Our approach recognises the individual behind the circumstances and aims to help people build confidence, strengthen connections, access appropriate support and participate more fully in community life.

As a refugee-led charity, Inspired believes people with lived experience should be part of shaping the communities and programmes in which they participate.
Our community members bring experience, knowledge, cultures, ideas and skills to our work. Through participation, volunteering and contributing to community activities, people can move beyond being recipients of support and become active contributors to the communities around them.
As Inspired develops, we want to strengthen the ways community voices help shape our programmes, priorities and future direction.

Working in Partnership
Many of the challenges experienced by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants cannot be addressed by one organisation alone.
Inspired works with voluntary, community and public sector organisations to connect people with appropriate support, share knowledge and strengthen the help available to the communities we serve.
These relationships also create opportunities to share what we learn from frontline experience and help other organisations better understand recurring needs and barriers affecting refugee and migrant communities.
Learning and Improving
Impact is not only about what we deliver. It is also about what we learn.
Our trusted relationships with refugees, asylum seekers and migrant communities give us insight into the challenges people experience, including isolation, discrimination, exclusion and difficulties accessing appropriate services and opportunities.
We use what we learn to improve our own work and identify unmet or recurring needs. As our evidence and partnerships develop, we want to strengthen how this learning is shared and used to help address underlying barriers affecting the communities we work alongside.
This approach allows Inspired to remain rooted in practical community support while building its capacity to contribute to wider and longer-term change.
From Frontline Experience

Direct support gives Inspired something particularly valuable: trusted relationships and first-hand understanding of the experiences of refugee, asylum seeker and migrant communities.
When the same barriers appear repeatedly, they may point to problems that cannot be resolved through individual support alone. By listening to people with lived experience, strengthening our evidence and working collaboratively with other organisations, Inspired aims to turn frontline learning into opportunities for improvement.
With the right resources and partnerships, we want to strengthen our ability to challenge discrimination and exclusion, address recurring barriers, contribute to better services and help create fairer opportunities for refugee and migrant communities.
