Celebrating the end of CVS Brent’s ‘We Wear Heritage’ Project

We had an absolute blast at the end-of-project party for We Wear Heritage, hosted by CVS Brent at the WISE Community Centre in Neasden.

The event brought together all twelve community groups who took part in this brilliant project, each showcasing their culture through traditional clothing and textiles. There was so much colour, creativity, and joy packed into one afternoon — a real celebration of everything the project stood for.

Our project featured in the brochure

For the Iranian women refugees who took part, this was about more than just making clothes. It became a space to gather, share memories, and reconnect with their culture. As they stitched and embroidered, stories flowed — of childhood, family traditions, and the journeys that brought them here. The creative process turned into something special: a mix of laughter, nostalgia, and pride felt in every piece on display.

Young people also had the chance to learn about their heritage and a country many of them have never seen — discovering traditions, language, and history through shared memories and garments that told stories without words.

All around the room were stunning exhibits from Afghan, Somali, Goan, Caribbean, Brazilian Indigenous, Tamil, Chinese, Romanian, Iraqi, and African community groups — each offering something unique. It was like taking a trip around the world without leaving Brent!

The party itself was full of good vibes: tasty snacks, great music, warm reunions, and heartfelt speeches that reminded us why this work matters. It wasn’t just about clothing — it was about connection, pride, and the stories that shape who we are.

A huge thank you to CVS Brent for making this happen and to everyone at the WISE Community Centre for being such welcoming hosts. We were also touched to receive a trophy in recognition of our work, along with a lovely mention in the project brochure and on the We Wear Heritage website. And most of all, thanks to our brilliant young volunteers for pouring their hearts into this — we’re so proud of what you created.
